About Us
Our Ethics Committee is one of the first committees to be accredited by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. Having originally begun operations as a distinct ethics committee within the Faculty of Medicine in 2004, the committee was dissolved following the 2007 regulation on ethics committees; it was subsequently re-established under the Rectorate in 2008 and resumed operations in its new form after obtaining accreditation. Our committee evaluates proposed studies involving experimental animals from an ethical standpoint—ensuring compliance with the aforementioned "3R" principles—and oversees their conduct in accordance with ethical standards. It coordinates animal experiments in conjunction with our state-of-the-art Experimental Animal Laboratory, which is licensed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs; this facility boasts a 1,500 m² indoor area and offers specialized capabilities—such as microsurgery and direct radiography—in addition to standard amenities. The committee holds regular monthly meetings, provided a quorum of members is present.
During the evaluation of projects, in addition to the aforementioned principles, the committee may offer recommendations to refine the study methodology, aiming to ensure the acquisition of highly reliable and valid data. If modifications are proposed for a study during the initial review, the committee makes every effort to finalize the evaluation at the subsequent meeting, provided the recommended changes have been implemented.
